Torin Updates and More

Last week I pulled the kids' baby books out of a box that I'd put them in when we were moving to South Dakota last June and have realized how badly I've been neglecting the updates.  Torin's book looks fantastic as his first 21 months were documented well.  Then the twins were born and I went into Mommy overload.  The twins' baby books are almost bare.  Maybe it's a second and third child thing or just the fact that I valued sleep more than writing in them with my 'free' time, but none-the-less here I am hoping to remedy that.  I need to get better about the books as well as updating this blog so that hopefully one day they have great memories to read about and reflect upon.
Torin

Torin, "Toe" as he is mostly referred to in our house now since the twins call him that, turned 3 1/2 years old this month and he gets to celebrate his 'half' birthday at preschool tomorrow.  He will have to get used to that since he is an August baby and will never celebrate a real birthday during the school year.  He attends New Horizons Preschool on Tuesday and Thursday mornings this year and loves it. At his parent-teacher conference this past November, we were told he was the first person in the class to know all of the others kids' names.  He is very social and has many friends, most of which are older.  As the youngest in the class, he mostly hangs out with the older 5 year-olds I'm told.  It doesn't surprise me as his favorite person to hang out with outside of school is Noah, who is 6.

Torin is learning so much so quickly these days.  He loves doing activities with letters and is very close to reading on his own.  He knows all of his upper case and lower case letters by sight and can sound out every letter also.  His latest thing is having us ask him what letter things start with.  For example, we'll say 'what does table start with?' He'll respond,  'ta, ta, table.  It starts with T.'  He sounds out all of the letters of the alphabet that way and is starting to put together ch, ck, etc.  Numbers aren't as big of an interest for Torin.  He counts 1-15, then will usually say 19, 16, and then start 20-28.  He recognizes numbers 1-12 by sight as we have been practicing a lot with clocks and telling time.  He knows penny, nickel, dime and quarter for money and can beat me all the time now playing UNO, Slap Jack and Candyland.  He knows his address is Onyx Place, Johnstown, CO.  We figure if he can get the street, city and state, he's in pretty good shape.  He knows all basic colors and shapes and his teachers tell us he will be more than ready for Kindergarten after this next year of preschool.  He will barely be 5 entering Kindergarten so hopefully he starts growing soon or he'll be really tiny entering school!

As of last week Torin was just over 38 inches tall and 35 pounds.  He's wearing 4T clothes and size 10 shoe.  We are working very hard at getting him to eat better so he will grow.  He is a busy, busy, busy boy that is so smart and funny.  We enjoy every minute with him, even the ones that test our patience to the ultimate point.  We love him to infinity and beyond.

Jumpin'

We hit up our favorite bouncy castle and slide place this morning. The kids had a blast and we went to lunch at Red Robin afterward.

"Look, It's a tough job...

...but someone has to taste mom's chocolate desserts to make sure they are edible."

Caterpillars!

They have begun moving dirt on the last two lots available on our block. Torin will be sad when the final homes are built and the Caterpillars are gone.

Sick...Still...Again...

When we're stuck in the house, sick, with nowhere to go, art activities get us through the day.
We paint, draw, color, glue, marker, you name it, our table, floors and walls have it on them.
But that's okay!  True art is in the eye of the beholder...and hopefully in the eye of the person who will next own this house!
We are slowly getting better.  Logan is our champ and hasn't gotten a single sniffle knock on wood.
Torin is on the mend from RSV and pneumonia.
Ella's double ear infection has cleared up beautifully thanks to antibiotics.  We even ventured outside for a short walk yesterday.  I hope we can enjoy our normal activities away from the house again soon.

Snow Day! 2/3/12

A blizzard came through this past Friday and Daddy got a snow day from work so we took advantage of it and played in the snow.  Many places in Colorado had feet of snow, so we lucked out with 8 inches give or take.

Children's Museum 2/1/12

We went to the Children's Museum last week with the kids and they had a blast.  The firetruck was the favorite station this time around.  We went out for pizza afterwards and the kids took great naps on the way home!

Sick

We've been unlucky in the flu department the past couple of weeks. Between bad colds and the flu, we are hoping our house is healthy again for the rest of winter. So we've spent lots of time in the house watching movies and playing games trying to get better.
