We decided to take an overnight trip to the mountains during a couple of Paul's days off at the end of May. We thought we'd take the kids out to eat, go hiking, stay in a hotel and swim in the pool, etc. Here's what actually happened...
We left on Tuesday at 11:30 so the kids could nap for a portion of the car ride. Unfortunately naps lasted a VERY short time, so we stopped for pizza in Idaho Springs.Due to the lack of an extended nap time, I was fortunate enough to take the screaming twins out of the restaurant so Paul and Torin could enjoy their pizza.
We decided to stop in Silverthorne for the evening and rented a hotel room. Torin had been telling us all afternoon that his tummy hurt and we chalked it up to not eating a good lunch and a little bit of car sickness from being in the mountains.
We hit up this awesome park to play at near our hotel for the afternoon.
We got back to the hotel in enough time for Torin to say, "I'm gonna puke!" as we get into our hotel room. And after said puking, "Okay, I feel better. Let's go swimming." And sure enough, he did feel better and he swam the night away.
Mommy, however, woke up at around 11P.M. and also said, "I'm gonna puke!" to husband who promptly got out of Mommy's way so she could hit up the bathroom. Unfortunately Mommy didn't feel like swimming after and was stuck in said bathroom for the next 12 hours miserable. Daddy took the children out for breakfast the next morning so Mommy could die in said hotel room on her own without lots of noise. And the vacation was quickly brought to a hault and we headed back down the mountain home so Mommy could rest up and get better. We will try another "quick, fun mini-vacation" in a couple years!
